Aquib - Global action to address academic dishonesty

Global action to address academic dishonesty

The credibility of higher education systems around the world relies on the trust society places in the value of the learning process and academic qualifications. This trust is the foundation of knowledge-based societies, but in recent years it has been threatened by academic fraud, particularly with the proliferation of fraudulent online academic services.

The Global Academic Integrity Network (GAIN), which brings together 40 regulatory bodies for educational quality worldwide, including AQUIB, is calling on major digital platforms and social networks to take action against the advertising of academic cheating services. These services allow students to pay others to complete their assignments or exams, undermining the learning process and eroding confidence in the qualifications they receive.

Widespread internet access has facilitated the expansion of these fraudulent services, turning the issue into a global concern. Moreover, they expose students to additional risks such as identity theft and extortion. That is why GAIN stresses that this fight is not solely the responsibility of educational institutions, but of all stakeholders involved: technology companies, regulators, online platforms, and students.

GAIN urges digital platforms to show their commitment to corporate responsibility by reviewing their policies and preventing the promotion of these services. Only through coordinated global action can we protect academic integrity, ensure student well-being, and restore trust in the qualifications that underpin our societies.
