New publication «20 years of evaluation of university teaching staff»
We have published a retrospective study on the evaluation of university teaching staff, covering the period from 2004 to 2022. This analysis, based on both internal data and external sources, comes at a key moment of transformation in the Spanish higher education system following the introduction of the new Organic Law of the University System (LOSU).
The main aim of the study is to review the evolution of the evaluation process for two academic positions: PAD and PCD, using both quantitative and qualitative evidence. The report highlights the distribution of applications, the results obtained, the criteria applied, and their academic and institutional implications.
Key findings include:
- Persistent inequalities by academic field, gender, and age.
- The most common reasons for negative evaluations, particularly related to research in the case of the PCD and to teaching performance in specific contexts.
- The impact of methodological and evaluative changes introduced by AQUIB over the years, such as the adoption of more contextualised indicators and progressive alignment with principles like DORA and COARA.
In addition to providing a diagnosis of the current state of affairs, the study puts forward proposals for the new accreditation system being developed under the LOSU. These include measures to enhance transparency, diversify evaluation panel profiles, better integrate teaching and research pathways, and include qualitative evaluation tools.
