A Handbook on Student Politics and Representation in Higher Education is published
Professor Manja Klemenčič of Harvard University has edited an interesting comparative study titled The Bloomsbury Handbook of Student Politics and Representation in Higher Education (2024), recently released in open access. This book is the result of cooperation and collaboration between Professor Klemenčič herself, the Global Student Forum (GSF), and various leading organizations over the past two years.
This work provides a fresh global analysis of student politics and its representation in higher education. It contains a detailed and well-structured compilation of chapters exploring the historical background, current practices, and ongoing debates surrounding student representation in higher education. It examines the organizational characteristics and political commitments of representative student associations within the framework of multi-level governance in higher education, highlighting opportunities for student representatives to influence both institutional and educational policies.
It also revisits and further develops existing theoretical concepts and analytical frameworks based on previous research on student politics and organizational models of representative student associations. Likewise, it presents empirical data collected from 25 countries, 4 regional student federations, and the Global Student Forum. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that this work is the result of collaboration between academics and student representatives, aiming to reach a wide audience and enhance understanding of the importance and impact of student representation in the higher education community.
On March 22, 2024 (14:30–15:45 CET), its virtual presentation will take place, which can be attended virtually through the following registration: http://tinyurl.com/Handbook-Launch
